Dear Diamonds,

As some of you may have heard, Young Living appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah in Salt Lake City today to enter our plea in a case that regarded a Lacey Act violation and a CITES violation. This closes a chapter in Young Living’s history – a chapter that has made us a better company.

Back in 2014 when our new management team became aware of a situation, we immediately conducted our own investigation with assistance from outside counsel, and voluntarily disclosed to the government in 2015 once this investigation was completed.

We determined these irregularities were a violation of the Lacey Act, which is a U.S. law that regulates the trade of certain plants and plant products. These irregularities also violated CITES, an international treaty that lists certain plants and plant products as protected.

I want to emphasize that this situation was a sourcing issue and has nothing to do with the quality of the oils. Young Living has worked with the government to help ensure that our plant products are correctly and legally sourced.

Many of you may have concerns, but I want to assure you that today was essentially the closing of a two-and-a-half-year chapter in Young Living’s history. I want you to remember:

• We found the problem.
• We fixed the problem.
• We’re better today.

We want to focus on the next chapter in our company’s history with the new Sourcing, Science and Standards pillars of the Seed to Seal program.

Our Seed to Seal program is setting the gold standard for essential oils purity and authenticity by carefully monitoring the sourcing and production of our oils. To learn more about the pillars, please go to https://www.youngliving.com/en_US/discover/seed-to-seal.

I also want to share the company’s statement on today’s hearing, which can be found on our home page. (You can share this statement with your downlines and direct them to the Seed to Seal page on YoungLiving.com.):

“Young Living has rigorous sourcing standards to uphold as responsible stewards of the earth. However, the company didn’t live up to our standards in this instance. For that, we apologize and promise to do better. We are always in a state of continuous improvement, constantly examining and improving our processes as the company grows so we avoid future mistakes and adhere to the high standards we’ve set across the entire organization.

In late 2014, our new management team became aware of a situation that was identified by our compliance program in place at the time. We immediately conducted our own investigation with assistance from outside counsel, and voluntarily disclosed to the government in 2015 once this investigation was completed.

“As part of Young Living’s commitment to comply with applicable laws and regulations wherever it does business, the company has developed a new comprehensive Lacey Act Compliance Program to help ensure that plant products come from legal and sustainable sources. Young Living is the first and only essential oils company to have a comprehensive Lacey Act-specific compliance program that has been reviewed and accepted by the government.

Young Living understands that it has a greater responsibility to help ensure quality and continuous improvement in leading the essential oils movement. As part of this responsibility, new programs have been developed that form the foundation of our new Seed to Seal pillars – Sourcing, Science and Standards.
